The Animal Care Specialist is an hourly-paid position that works directly with our shelter dogs and cats, taking care of their daily needs, including cleaning, feeding and enrichment activities (behavior training, grooming, playtime, exercise). Ideal candidates must be at least 18 years old, have had experience with dogs and cats. Other duties include monitoring health and behavior; assist with animal intake; create and maintain adequate written and computer records (Animal Shelter Manager) and work with volunteers/community service workers. This position requires positive interactions with the public, introducing shelter animals to potential adoptive families and assisting with donations to the shelter. Must be able to lift 50lbs. This position may provide assistance to shelter veterinarian during alteration clinic. Must be dependable, energetic, work well with others, have good communication skills, and be honest.
Stray Haven Humane Society & SPCA is a no-kill animal shelter serving Tioga County, NY and the surrounding communities offering pet adoption, dog control holding services, humane investigation, low-income public spay/neuter services, volunteering and community service activities.
Current Driver’s License required.
